Mr. Cathey was born and raised in the Bethany Community of Morgan County. He attended Buckhead Elementary School and graduated from Morgan County High School. He is a Veteran of the Vietnam War where he served as a Green Beret on a Recon/Rescue team. He was a founding member of the Bethany Volunteer Fire Department and served several years as Chief and then as Treasurer. Mr. Cathey retired from Bell South after 32 years of service. He is a member of the Madison Baptist Church where he curently serves as deacon and Sunday School teacher. He and his wife, the former Jeannette Vaughan, have been married for 38 years and have two sons. They are Brian and Joey. Brian resides in Watkinsville, and Joey and his wife Beth reside in Bostwick. They have a daughter, Madeline, Mr. Cathey's first grandchild; she is the light of his life.
