Morgan County and all of its municipalities adopted a Joint Comprehensive Plan in 2004 pursuant to the requirements of the Georgia Planning Act. Updates to the Plan are required at the five-year midpoint between ten-year plan intervals as an interim progress check. In 2007, the Georgia Department of Community Affairs adopted new requirements for Partial Plan Updates, which largely pertain to a review of on-going short and long range governmental projects. Additionally, DCA mandated that cities and counties complete an assessment regarding Quality Community Objectives outlined by the department and give consideration to areas requiring special attention in their jurisdiction. All of this information is required to be reviewed and approved by each local government, the Northeast Georgia Regional Development Center, and the Georgia Department of Community Affairs no later than June 2009 to comply with the requirements for the Partial Plan Update.
Public hearings will be held in each jurisdiction to give citizens the opportunity to review draft documents and provide feedback to the Planning Staff in regard to plan updates. As these dates are determined, they will be posted on this website and advertised in the local newspaper, The Morgan County Citizen. You may contact Morgan County Planning and Development directly with questions or comments regarding these draft documents, or to inquire about the date of a proposed hearing. Questions and comments may be directed to Chuck Jarrell at 706-342-4373 or CJarrell@morganga.org.
