History

In the 1980's, a group of Morgan County parents began exploring the idea of a facility where local youth could show their livestock and hold events. From this idea the concept of the Morgan County Agriculture Center was born. The Honorable Frank Stancil of Watkinsville was the State Representative for Morgan County at the time. Representative Stancil had a deep love for agriculture and for youth. When he was approached with the idea of an arena he immediately secured funds through the state to assist in the building of the facility.

With this encouragement, a gift of land from the county, donated services from contractors, fundraisers, and the sale of advertising signs, the Ag Center became a reality. It was built in 1989 and consisted of a horse arena, a small covered arena, stalls, concession stand, and an announcer's stand. Over the years the horse arena was enlarged, a small warm-up arena, arena lights, and additional stalls were added.

Over the years the facility has been used for a wide range of activities. Rodeos, dog shows, farm safety camps, equipment auctions, clinics, demonstrations, and even plant sales have taken place at the Ag Center. Today the facility's calendar includes horse, dairy heifer, beef, sheep and goat shows, lamb sales, and equipment auctions.

Anyone interested in learning more about or renting the facility is encouraged to call the Morgan County Cooperative Extension Office at (706)342-2214. Even better come to one of the events scheduled at the Morgan County Agriculture Center and look around. You will find a schedule of events, fee schedule, and photos of past events elsewhere on this site.

If you are planning an outdoor event and need a facility, look no further than the Morgan County Ag Center. The Center's calendar includes horse, dairy heifer, beef, sheep and goat shows, lamb sales, and equipment auctions. However, the general public is encouraged to rent the facility for not only agriculture events but for most any outdoor event. In fact, the goal of the facility is to provide a safe, clean, convenient, and reasonably priced place to hold almost any type of outdoor event.

The Morgan County Agriculture facility is located on US Highway 441 North on the edge of Madison, which can be reached from Interstate 20 in a matter of minutes, and is only 30 minutes from Athens. The facility is also very accessible to historic downtown Madison, local restaurants, and hotels.

Anyone interested in learning more about or renting the facility is encouraged to call the Morgan County Cooperative Extension Office at (706)342-2214. Even better, come to one of the events scheduled at the Morgan County Agriculture Center and look around. You will find photos of past events below.
